Theme: Nurturing

Hello May! As the earth awakens in its full glory, so too does our need to nurture ourselves and those around us. This month, we embrace the theme of 'Nurturing' in all its beautiful forms. May graces us with celebrations of incredible women on Mother's Day and calls us to somber reflection on Memorial Day, honoring the profound sacrifices made for our nation.

When you plant the seed of love – it is you who blossoms.
— Ma Jaya Sati Bhagavita

Just as the earth tenderly nurtures new life in spring, May invites us to focus on nurturing ourselves and those we cherish. What does self-care truly look like for you in this season of your life? Is it a quiet moment with a cup of tea, a walk in nature, or perhaps finally allowing yourself that uninterrupted shower?

Often, those with a nurturing heart also possess a deep well of empathy, keenly feeling the emotions of others. This incredible capacity allows for profound connection, but it can also feel overwhelming at times. Empathy, as it's understood, is the ability to truly understand and share what another person is experiencing by stepping into their frame of reference. It encompasses a range of emotional states, including cognitive empathy (understanding another's perspective), emotional empathy (feeling their emotions), and somatic empathy (experiencing physical sensations in response to their feelings). If you often feel like you're picking up on other people's energy and it becomes draining, these simple yet powerful self-care practices can help you navigate the world while safeguarding your own well-being:

  • Establish a daily practice that nourishes your soul. Whether it's a quiet prayer, a mindful meditation, a refreshing walk in nature, or anything that connects you to your inner self and a sense of spirit, make it a non-negotiable part of your day.

  • Embrace the power of "NO." It's a complete sentence, requiring no justification. Adding a gentle "No, thank you" can sometimes ease the delivery, but remember, your boundaries are important.

  • Prioritize regular body work. Massage, energy healing, or any form of bodywork can help release held tension and re-establish energetic balance.

As the fifth month, May embodies the energy of balance and equilibrium. Nurturing ourselves requires finding this healthy sense of proportion, attending to both our physical and spiritual well-being. The number 5 implies you must maintain a healthy sense of proportion in your life in terms of both the physical and the spiritual. the number 5 also brings emphasis to your physical body, your sexual energy, and the way in which your body, mind, and emotions are able to adapt to change. physical matter changes constantly and that you can either prosper from these changes or be overwhelmed by them.

Memorial Day - May 26th

In May we also honor those who have given the ultimate sacrifice for our Nation in the marking of Memorial Day.     Memorial Day is often described as the “unofficial start of summer” with a 3 day weekend filled with grilling, corn on the cob, and delicious desserts.   But it is (or should be) so much more than that.

Memorial Day itself is a sacred day of observance, centered on acknowledging, remembering, and thanking the millions of people in uniform who gave their lives for this country. Before anything else, it's about those brave heroes and the incredible sacrifice they made so that we could all be free.

Of course, in order to properly pause, reflect, and pay your respects to the soldiers to whom we owe our many freedoms, you'll have to first know when to do so.
