Turning Inward & Anchoring Peace

As autumn deepens and the air turns crisp, nature subtly instructs us to shift our momentum. The vibrant, outward-focused energy of summer has fully receded, and the natural world is slowing down. October is natureโ€™s gentle invitation to come home to yourselfโ€”to step out of the external noise and retreat into your own inner sanctuary.

When the world around us grows colder and the days shorten, anchoring peace internally becomes our greatest strength. Turning inward isn't about isolating; it is about creating a quiet, steady space within your own heart where you can recharge, listen to your intuition, and restore your natural balance. This is the month that really supports this before we move into the Holiday season.

๐Ÿ‚ Returning Home to Yourself: The Practice of Turning Inward

In our fast-paced lives, we spend so much energy projecting outwardโ€”managing schedules, supporting others, and responding to constant demands. October offers a natural pause to ask: How much energy am I keeping for myself? Turning inward allows you to take stock of your internal landscape. It gives your nervous system permission to step down its guard. When you anchor peace within, you build an inner stability that remains unshaken, no matter how chaotic or fast-moving the outside world might feel.

๐ŸŒ• Celestial Energy Preview: Libra Harmony & The October Full Moon

Cosmically, October guides us through a powerful journey from relationship-centered balance to deep internal alignment. We begin the month anchored in Libra Season, which illuminates our longing for harmony, beauty, and peaceful connections. Libra reminds us that true balance starts within before it can reflect outward into our lives.

As the October Full Moon approaches, its brilliant light shines directly into our inner world, bringing hidden emotions, unspoken needs, and subtle energetic blockages to the surface. It is a potent time for release, inviting us to shed whatever heavy burdens or stress weโ€™ve been carrying. Later in the month, as the Sun moves into intuitive Scorpio, the collective energy deepens, supporting true spiritual renewal and inner transformation.

The Harvest Moon and the Hunterโ€™s Moon are unique in that they are not directly related to folklore, nor necessarily restricted to a single month. Instead, they are tied to an astronomical event: the fall Equinox. This full moon was known by early Native American tribes as the Hunters Moon because it signaled the time to go hunting in preparation for the cold winter ahead. Animals are beginning to fatten up ahead of winter, and since the farmers had recently cleaned out their fields under the Harvest Moon, hunters could easily see the deer and other animals that had come out to root through the remaining scraps (as well as the foxes and wolves that had come out to prey on them).

Halloween (Samhain)

October brings my most favorite Holiday โ€“ Halloween.  In the old tradition Halloween was called Samhain โ€“ (pronounced saah-ween) a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter.  In the old traditions, it was a time to honor the harvest and to celebrate ancestors and those who have passed from this lifetime.  Halloween, like many holidays, marks the passage of time. We may notice that vegetation dies back with the arrival of killing frosts. This maybe where the ancient notion that the veil between the worlds is thinnest around this time.  In other words, some believe this time of year is when it is easiest to communicate with those who have died.

In more current times Halloween is the holiday where children (and others) don masks and costumes and go trick or treating.   I have tried to figure out over the years why I love Halloween so much. I think because even as a child, I knew this holiday speaks to a sense of fantasy, community and generosity.  On what other holiday do we seem to trust our neighbors so deeply โ€“ knock on doors, are greeted with a smile and a treat?  On what other day of the year are we encouraged to pretend to be someone else even and engage our imagination for just a few hours?    From memories of the early days of my childhood in the 1960 and 70โ€™s going door to door with my father and sister to trick or treat, to later going with gangs of friends, or college parties filled with crazy costumes, to adulthood when my husband and I so loved decorating our house and yard and we became the ones answering the door and giving out the treats, this Holiday has always made me happy.  I hope you find joy in it also.

๐Ÿ“ Your October Reflection Practice

Take 10 quiet minutes with a warm cup of tea and your journal this week to reflect on these questions:

  • Where in my daily life can I create a small, quiet sanctuary just for myself?

  • What external noise am I ready to tune out so I can hear my inner wisdom?

Our Crystal for October is Rutilated Quartz

Rutilated Quartz is an example of how miracles occur in nature. Science doesn't fully understand how rutilated quartz is formed since the softer metal colored hairs grew into the harder surrounding quartz crystal. So you can understand why this crystal was associated with angels and protective spirits in ancient lore all around the world.

Metaphysical Properties:
Rutilated Quartz is an effective purifier and integrator of energy. It encourages letting go, helps you to clear your mind, teaches you how to sharpen your focus, and strengthens your light body so that you gain more profound insights.

Rutilated Quartz connects you to your soul-plan and helps you to understand the effects of previous actions and ingrained patterns. It helps you to distinguish between karma as `payback for previous actions' and your soul intention.
