Book Recommendation The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

When was the last time you heard from yourself???   Every time we tune into our email, social or news feed for probably the umpteenth time in a day – we are choosing to tune our inner voice.

Years ago, when I first started on a mindfulness practice I remember constantly thinking to myself – well this doesn’t feel very productive. Trying to calm my mind from bouncing from the laundry that needed folding to the to do list at work.   I could not have been more wrong in that thought that being mindful is not very productive.   Being Present does not mean always sitting crossed legs, hands in a mudra and chanting “Om”.  At least not for me.

But it does take some effort to choose to tune into ourselves. To be present first to ourselves and then for others.  If we cannot hear our own inner voice – then whose voice are we listening to? Perhaps all the outside influences like what some have taken to referring to as “doom scrolling”. Well doesn’t that moniker tell us everything we need to know.

In April I invite you to consider how you can be more present to yourself. I suggest starting with simple guided meditations that are short – under 10 minutes. There are many free apps out there that offer this.  Or just set a timer on your phone for 5, 7 or 10 Minutes. Notice what happens. See how it makes you feel.

For myself I have found the more consistent I have been in doing a mindfulness practice and being committed to being present for myself first and then for other people the more I am able to really be in the moment in every aspect of my life.

It is a mistake to try and look too far ahead. The chain of destiny can only be grasped one link at a time
— Winston Churchill

April brings us several Holidays including Passover and Easter and is often a time of significant transition in the world and in our own lives. I hope the words from Marianne Williamson help to keep you present through this major month of shifts.

Passover also called Pesach, is a major Jewish holiday that celebrates the Biblical story of the Israelites escape from slavery in Egypt, which occurs on the 15th day of the Hebrew month of Nisan, the first month of Aviv, or spring. This year it will be celebrated Apr 5, 2023 – Apr 13, 2023

Easter is celebrated on the first Sunday after the Paschal Full Moon (i.e., the first full Moon of spring), which means that it will be celebrated this year on Sunday, April 9 (following the full Moon on April 5-6).

  • Even in the midst of fear and suffering, keep your heart open; this will invoke a miracle. The symbolic "three days" between the crucifixion and the resurrection represents the time it takes for a situation to transform from fear to love. Have patience and faith during the "tomb time" in between the two. Things might still appear dark, but the light is coming.

April Full Moon

April’s full Moon drifts into the sky on the night of Wednesday, April 5, reaching peak illumination at 12:37 A.M. EDT on the 6th! Traditionally called the Pink Moon, this full Moon is also the Paschal full Moon this year.

Venture outside on the night of Wednesday, April 5, to catch a glimpse of April’s full Pink Moon. This full Moon actually reaches peak illumination at 12:37 A.M. Eastern Time on Thursday, April 6, which means that it will be at its peak on the night of April 5 in more westerly time zones.

Although we wish this name had to do with the color of the Moon, the reality is not quite as mystical or awe-inspiring. In truth, April’s full Moon often corresponded with the early springtime blooms of a certain wildflower native to eastern North America:  creeping phlox or moss phlox—which also went by the name “moss pink.” Source:  Farmer’s Almanac.

Crystal of the Month – Charoite

Charoite is a deep dark purple stone with swirls of white in it that supports us in staying present and in the moment. Charoite helps you to accept the present moment as perfect. With its support, you can relax and let go. This stone assists in putting things into perspective, helping you to accept other people, and yourself, as they are, rather than as you would like them to be. With Charoite there are no expectations, no demands. There is no criticism. You simply are, with what is, unconditionally accepting life. Source: Judy hall
