Book for Oct: Making Life Easy by Dr. Christiane Northrup

“do not let the behavior of others destroy your inner peace” —Dalai Lama

Welcome October! At this time of year we honor the gifts the earth has given us and we celebrate my favorite Holiday – Halloween. All around us now nature shows us the cycle of death and rebirth. It is a time of great transition where the light wanes and the temperatures drop. October is a time for clearing away the old unnecessary things or habits that no longer serve us. We set the intention during October that winter will come and go with the least negative effects. For our ancestors this was quite a serious process that included storing food from their harvests.

Our Theme this month is Inner Peace and it is a state in which we are at peace with ourselves and the world around us. Inner peace is something that we all crave, but it is often difficult to achieve. We live in a fast-paced and stressful world, and it can be hard to slow down and find our center. However, there are many things that we can do to cultivate inner peace, and one of the most effective is energy healing.

Energy healing is a holistic approach to healing that focuses on the energy field that surrounds and permeates our bodies. This energy field is often referred to as the aura. Energy healing practitioners believe that imbalances in the energy field can lead to physical, emotional, and spiritual problems. There are many different types of energy healing, including Craniosacral Therapy, Reiki and Sound Healing. All of these techniques work in different ways to clear and balance the energy field and all of these techniques are offered at Rose Healing Center.

One of the benefits of energy healing is that it can help us to achieve inner peace. When our energy field is balanced, we are more likely to experience relaxation, tranquility, and a sense of well-being. Energy healing can also help us to release negative emotions, such as anger, fear, and sadness. These emotions can block our energy flow and prevent us from experiencing inner peace.

Halloween like many holidays marks the passage of time. In the old tradition Halloween was called Samhain – a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter. We may notice that vegetation dies back with the arrival of killing frosts. This maybe where the ancient notion that the veil between the worlds is thin around this time.  In other words, some believe this time of year is when it is easiest to communicate with those who have died.

In more current times Halloween is the holiday where children (and others) don masks and costumes and go trick or treating.   I have tried to figure out over the years why I love Halloween so much. I think because even as a child, I knew this holiday speaks to a sense of fantasy, community and generosity.  On what other holiday do we seem to trust our neighbors so deeply – knock on doors, are greeted with a smile and a treat?  On what other day of the year are we encouraged to pretend to be someone else even and engage our imagination for just a few hours?    From memories of the early days of my childhood in the 1960 and 70’s going door to door with my parents to trick or treat, to later going with gangs of friends, or college parties filled with crazy costumes, to adulthood when my husband and I became the ones answering the door and giving out the treats, Halloween has always made me happy.

In October, it is the Full Hunter's Moon - October 28, 2023 at 4:24 p.m. EDT. It will be below the horizon, so we’ll have to wait until sunset to watch it rise and take its place in the sky. The Hunter’s Moon rises around the same time for several nights, so start looking for it on Friday, October 27!

As the Moon drifts over the horizon around sunset, it may appear larger and more orange—how perfect for the fall season! For decades, the Almanac has referenced the monthly full Moons with names tied to early Native American, Colonial American, and European folklore. Traditionally, each full Moon name was applied to the entire lunar month in which it occurred and through all of the Moon’s phases—not only the full Moon.

The Harvest Moon and the Hunter’s Moon are unique in that they are not directly related to this folklore or restricted to a single month. Instead, they are tied to an astronomical event: the autumnal equinox! The Harvest Moon is the full Moon that occurs nearest to the autumnal equinox date (September 23, 2023). This means that either September or October’s full Moon may take on the name “Harvest Moon” instead of its traditional name. Similarly, the Hunter’s Moon is the first full Moon to follow the Harvest Moon, meaning it can occur in either October or November. This year, the Harvest Moon occurred on September 29, so the Hunter’s Moon will follow it one lunar cycle later, on October 28. Source: Farmer’s Almanac

Continuing our theme of Inner Peace…..

If you are looking for a way to achieve inner peace, I encourage you to try energy healing. Energy healing is a safe and effective way to heal your body, mind, and spirit. When you combine energy healing with other practices that promote inner peace, such as meditation, yoga, and spending time in nature you can experience a deep sense of tranquility, serenity, and contentment.

Here are some additional tips for cultivating inner peace:

  • Be present in the moment. Take some time each day to simply focus on your breath and your surroundings. Let go of any thoughts about the past or the future, and simply be present in the moment.

  • Practice gratitude. Take some time each day to think about the things that you are grateful for. This can help you to focus on the positive aspects of your life and to cultivate a sense of well-being.

  • Be kind to yourself. Forgive yourself for your mistakes and shortcomings. Accept yourself for who you are, and love yourself unconditionally.

  • Serve others. Helping others is a great way to connect with your community and to make a difference in the world. When you serve others, you also experience the joy of giving, which can help to promote inner peace.

Inner peace is a journey, not a destination. There will be ups and downs along the way. But by following these tips, you can cultivate inner peace and create a more happy and fulfilling life for yourself.

Our Crystal for October is Opalite

Opalite is a man-made glass that resembles natural Opal and Moonstone, both in appearance and in the unique way it plays with light. Its chemical composition consists primarily of silica and other minerals that give it unique luminescence and optical effects. Also known as blue opalite and “Tiffany Stone”, among others, opalite is beloved by crystal collectors for its opalescent beauty and many healing properties.

It is known for facilitating the success of business transactions to healing old traumas and strengthening relationships, opalite’s connection with various chakras make it an unmatched crystal for channelling optimism, insight, and connection with youthful innocence.

For crystal healers, opalite is steeped in profound symbolism. It is frequently used to balance the feminine and masculine energies. It is considered to be emblematic of youthful optimism, playfulness and resilience. Blue and white, the two primary colours often found in opalite, are associated with peace, tranquillity and purity. What’s more, opalite is far more affordable and easier to track down than organic opal, which is only found in nature.
